06/12/2010 - All Blacks Adventure
What a life;
So things have been interesting lately. I haven't taken many pictures in the last month or so for a summation of many reasons. Firstly the knee set me back about 4 weeks of nothingness, secondly the weather here has been pretty shotty, thirdly the camera was temporarily mia, finally haven't had any good adventures! But... that all changed this last weekend. I had been pretty hesitant about whether or not i wanted to go see the All Blacks play down in New Plymouth. It was the weekend before I needed to start preparing for finals and it was a hefty 4.5hr drive.
Well, I went, and Im so glad I did. It was a hell of an adventure and something I doubt i will ever forget. So the car; 5 of us in total took Debbie down to New Plymouth; Danny, Amanda, Carolijn, Anni, and me. It was a great combo of personalities and music. Prior to leaving I bought CD's and gave them out to get some sweet tunes for the car ride. thank god for that, made the car ride go so fast. time really does fly when you are having fun. We left on Saturday about 11 with the game starting at 7:30. We ended up getting into New Plymouth with tons of time to spare so we grabbed some food and went looking for some fun.
Boy did we find some. We drove to one of the local coastal parks and made our way down to the beach; which was a feet in its self. The sunset was so AMAZING. Everything was just perfect; great sunset, great company, and not a care in the world. We frolicked on the beach, rocks, and big 'islands' that you could get to from the beach because it was low tide. Man, this sunset is going to rival all sunsets I have ever seen. Think i got on of my favorite pictures of NZ here (see if you can figure out which one it is). But time was winding down and we needed to head out to meet up with some other friends that where just getting into the city. As we made our way back to the car we got POURED on. The skies opened up and it was just a monsoon.
Soggy as can be we made our way to McDies; which was also a mini adventure with the foggy windows. But we made it there and met up with another car full of friends and set off to find parking for the game. Once we got into the stadium and found a good spot for the game the fun began. I had bought some face paint and we started applying it. I did a hand print half white half black, most everyone else opted for the black and white stripes under the eyes. The game was awesome to watch. There was fireworks and pryo and what not. Also the haka done by the all blacks was so intense.
The first half the all blacks where scoring down on our end which was awesome since they scored like 50 in the first 1/2. Then half time came and i was able to meet up with Lena, a friend from Penn State studying here in Wellington, it was brief but good to see a face from home. The second half Ireland was scoring down on our side and they ended up having a good half and scored a bunch. So needless to say it was an entertaining game to watch. After the game we got some food and hit the road for home. It was a long day and the drive was pretty intense but man it was amazing!
Hope everyone enjoys the pictures!
